Rather than discussing chronic pain and its effects on patients and families, the book focuses on a subset of patients who become addicted to opiate pain medications. While addiction is certainly a valid subject for a book about chronic pain, I was expecting a discussion of how families can negotiate the day to day tribulations of having a family with severe chronic pain.It should also be noted that not all patients who take opiates for chronic pain are addicted.
