DESCRIPTION:
"Great read" according to Leyla. This was fun to read, not as good as James Herriot but kept me reading to the small hours. I found the details regarding the treatments very interesting and I had a loud laugh at the beginning of the book when the partners is driving the new vet around the district, he points out some cows and she comes back with "sheep". Yo. "Finally, a new James Herriot" according to Marc Fisher. I found this book impossible to put down once I started. It has everything - humour, romance, sadness - a real emotional roller-coaster that so accurately depicts the life of a young vet and the challenges of this wonderful profession. I can't wait for the sequel and suspect Anna Birch is finally the writer to take the baton. Rebekah Hammond said Heart warming read. Left me wanting more. I hope this the first of many more written by Anna as I will be seeking them out. Humorous, well developed characters (animals and their people), realistic and heartwarming stories. The true life of a vet without the usual sugar coating.
About the AuthorAnna Birch is a rural veterinarian.
Spirited and determined, Anna quickly finds her feet and falls in love with rural life, including Ebbourne’s eccentric characters and their animals. With disasters, dramas, farmers, and friendship—and not to mention a whirlwind romance with a local Wildlife Trust worker—this warm and witty memoir offers a window into what working with animals and country life is really all about.. When fresh-faced, newly qualified vet Anna arrives in the seemingly sleepy Dorset village of Ebbourne, little does she know that this tiny rural community is about to change her life . Straight in at the deep end, Anna faces two tricky calvings, an emergency call-out to a frightened mare, lots of mad cats (and mad cat women), and one enormous dog with an injured leg and a threatening bark
