"More History than Practicality" according to Jefferson Melby. Certainly well researched and well written history of both ship carving and the Navys of the Old World. For the woodcarver or would-be shipcarver, this was of little practical application. The history, whys and wherefores, were enlightening, yet difficult to apply to hands-on carving and design. For the price, I cannot recommend it, other than as a historical treatment of the topic. Many other how-to books out there that would be much more useful, and significantly cheaper..
