The Metropolitan Museum of Art has the most complete collection of European nineteenth century art in America. This beautifully illustrated catalogue was published on the occasion of the opening of its newly refurbished nineteenth century and early School of Paris painting galleries. Besides a book of large color reproductions , it serves as a great introduction to approximately seventy famous and lesser known painters from nine countries. However,. beautifully made book This is a large, beautifully made book. The images of the paintings are rich and vibrant, and the text accompanying each painting is insightful and educational, without being boring.
