Disappointing While the author's stories presented are interesting, this reads as a "kick ass and take names" expose of the people and situations the author butted horns with while working within the law enforcement community, and the author's hurt ego gets in the way of what otherwise could have been a great book. By the end of the book, the author's personal grudges created a lack of credibility which diminished the value of what would otherwise be a good read.. Real life but Mary A. Maybe I expected something a little different. The book starts out very interesting with stories of crimes she dealt with then about half way through drifts into all the "crap" she had to put up with being a woman in a "man's" profession. Well guess what? Everyone (and maybe more so if you are a woman) has very similar experience at the work place. The exception is that most women's lives aren't put at risk, nor do they risk false imprisonment in their work place. I don't doubt for a minute what Mrs. Dittrich wrote is fact. It's just that too much of an otherwise good book tu. Amazon Customer said Excellent, gripping, fast read. I finished this book in one evening. The writing is very clean and Dittrich doesn't pull any punches. But what makes it most gripping are all the stories of criminals she encountered--on and off the police force. It's not very long. I actually would have preferred it to be longer. I would love to have heard more about her experiences with criminals. It is broken up into sections which I liked--you get to read about ALL the facets of the job, not just the calls she went on. Some of it is pretty disturbing and not for the faint of heart.
