Absolutely awesome!! Matt Mulka Being born much too late to witness the glory years of the railroad, I love books which show what the good old days looked like. Some of the scenes in the book are familar to me, and that also adds to the book's appeal. This book shows both the machines and the people affiliated with the railraod. Highly recommended.. Like this book As a child, I grew up in the outskirts of Chicago. Lived close to the Illinois Central mainline and my friend and I would ride our bikes down to the tracks to see trains. I was most interested in the sleek passenger trains.I was almost too young to see the pre-Amtrak days, but on a few special occasions, I was able to get my father to take my friend and I downtown and see the big stations where I could see nearly every railroad's passenger trains. It was amazing for a young kid who subscribed to Trains magazine. I moved away from there a few years after Amtrak chang. Almost like being there Todd B. Mostly a pictorial with brief synopses of the railroads and passenger trains serving points West and North of Chicago as well as 4 pages featuring the downtown area stations used. Top quality black & white photos throughout with a nice balance of steam, diesel, heavyweight, streamlined, plus a few motorcars, taken at a variety of locations primarily within and around Chicago area stations as well as some in action in suburban/rural settings. Highly recommended as a way to figurately travel back to a time and place considered to be "paradise" by many railfans.
