DESCRIPTION:
Complete with rarely seen photographs and a comprehensive timeline of his writings, this book is a fitting companion to MacQuarrie’s own Stories of the Old Duck Hunters anthologies.. As a result, his audience and his legend continue to grow. It explores the relationships he nurtured and treasured; records his coming of age during Theodore Roosevelt’s Conservation Movement; documents his rise to national prominence as the first full-time, professional outdoor writer in America; and follows his life as journalist, storyteller, husband, father, outdoorsman, and conservationist. Through his “Stories of the Old Duck Hunters,” most of which are still in print, MacQuarrie captured the intangible, emotional qualities of the outdoor life in a way that made him unique among his peers. Gordon MacQuarrie: The Story of an Old Duck Hunter is the first full-length biography of this literary legend. Although his typewriter has been silent for nearly fifty years, Gordon MacQuarrie’s words continue to inspire generations of hunting and fishing enthusiasts
"Author approaches subject's level of writing." according to Johnny. Even though I have been a Gordon MacQuarrie fan for forty years, there were still many things I did not know about him. Not so after reading Keith Crowley's book. He answered all questions I had plus some I had never thought of. However, I was most impressed with his level of writing. When on page 99 of the book I read: "He knew that in an instantall the things deemed so important in life could pale under the bright light of fate.", I realized that Gordon MacQuarrie could not have worded it better himself. I think he would be well p. G R E A T !!!!! Can't put it down ! Back in the ealry 70's I bought a Gorden McQuarrie book through a book of the month club and loved it. The book is very shelf worn, water damaged, and dirty from too many campfires. Was very pleasantly surprised to find it and others by Gorden on AMAZON BOOKS and bought the bunch of them. I am a slow reader, have some eye problems and easily distracted. so THIS book sits in the bathroom where NOBODY BOTHERS ME and the lighting is good. When asked why I a. "One of the best outdoor writers" according to Amazon Customer. Love MacQuarrie's stories. Especially duck hunting. He even writes well enough to make me read fishing stories that would not normally interest me. Great reading.
