DESCRIPTION:

Does Jesus Really Love Me?: A Gay Christian's Pilgrimage in Search of God in America is part memoir and part investigative analysis that explores the explosive and confusing intersection of faith, politics, and sexuality in Christian America. The quest to find an answer is at the heart of Does Jesus Really Love Me?—a personal journey of belief, an investigation, and a portrait of a faith and a nation at odds by award-winning reporter Jeff Chu.From Brooklyn to Nashville to California, from Westboro Baptist Church and their “God Hates Fags” protest signs, to the pioneering Episcopalian bishop Mary Glasspool—who proclaims a message of liberation and divine love, Chu captures spiritual snapshots of Christian America at a remarkable moment, when tensions between both sides in the culture wars have rarely been higher.Funny and heartbreaking, perplexing and wise, Does Jesus Really Love Me? is an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual pilgrimage that reveals a nation in crisis.

He also encountered past and present members of ex-gay ministries, straight couples who support gay marriage, intentional gay celibates, the founder of the social medium gaychristian, leaders of gay-welcoming Evangelical churches and of Metropolitan Community Church (the so-called—by others—gay Evangelical denomination), parents and friends of gays, and faithful young gays who remind him of himself. It’s, “Yes, Jesus loves me!” But as a gay man, he’s wanted reassurance—really loves me? He took to the road to see how and why

"Elephant in the Middle of the Room" according to Labarum. First let me state that Jeff Chu seems to be a really nice guy. Even better, "Does Jesus Really Love Me" is very well written and each chapter would make an interesting article. However, what was not addressed makes as much of a point as what was addressed. The book details Chu's interaction with those in the thick of the controversy over the place of gays in the Church and how the Church should react. Interspersed between them are personal testimonies. Much o. "If nothing else, whatever one's viewpoint, this is very respectfully and thoughtfully done" according to Khendra. This book exceeded my expectations. For once, this issue is tackled in a more thoughtful manner than what I'm used to seeing.I have found that discourse about homosexuality, on both sides, tends to be extremely shallow. On the one hand, homosexuals frequently resort to the "love" argument. This is a straw man; Christians are not opposed to the love a homosexual couple may share, only the sexual expression aspect of it. On the other hand, Christians frequently
