DESCRIPTION:
The translation was done by Lieutenant F. Originally published in 1869, this engineering text was used at the School of Civil Engineers in Paris. Early turbines like the Fourneyron, Fontaine, and others are also covered in this book. Corps of Engineers. Mahan of the U.S. A. This book is a thorough description of water wheels from the engineering standpoint. Amongst the topics covered are: preliminary ideas of hydraulic motors, water wheels with a horizontal axle, water wheels with vertical axles, turbines, machines for raising water, spiral noria, and pumps.
The only book on waterwheels that has real math. I am an engineer who designs screens to keep fish out of irrigation ditches and in the river. Many of these screens are small, and in isolated locations miles from the electrical grid. This leaves two options to operate the screen; use the energy in the water, or use solar panels. The program I work for has been building and maintaining screens for fifty years and the guys who build the screens have developed a good paddlewheel system for diversions of 3-cfs and larger. For smaller diversions they have been relying on solar panels.I looked all over, and called all kinds of people trying to find real engineering design crite. Steve said If you're interested only in the mathematical/engineering calculations about water. If you're interested only in the mathematical/engineering calculations about water wheels or hydraulic motors circa late1900's then this is your book.Very compact and to the pointzero fluff. This is not a history book.Order only the light blue copy because that is a replica and not an OCR'd book!
