"I would have liked more and better maps" according to Gerhard Postpischil. Despite some inevitable duplication, this book offers a thorough exposition of the W&OD, surpassing Harwood's "Rails to the Blue Ridge" (also recommended). I would have liked more and better maps, but I'm uncertain as to what material is still available (e.g., there used to be a bridge over Lee Highway near Military road, but it is now gone, and apparently no pictures remain). "Author shows his love of history and the railroad" according to Harry Stevens. This book shows the resilience and dedication of work ethic of the engineers of our past. The fact that an author such as Mr. Guillaudeu can show his love of history and the railroad in his own unique and interesting layout was very moving. "W & OD rocks!" according to Gomer Jones. I used to ride the W & OD rail trail when I lived in NOVA. This book is the third I've acquired on this fascinating little railroad. The other two, Rails to the Blue Ridge by Herb Harwood and Washington & Old Dominion by Ames Williams, are both great reads. This new book by David Guillaudeu provides information not found in the other two books. For example, the construction details of one of the stations.

Through old photographs, Washington & Old Dominion Railroad explores the efforts that went into building, operating, and maintaining the railroad whose right-of-way has now become the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority’s Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park.. The employees excavated the roadbed by hand, built stations and electric locomotives, reconfigured passenger cars, repl
