DESCRIPTION:
In this classic text and professional resource, leading geographers and urban planners present the foundational concepts and methodological tools that readers need to understand and engage with today's pressing policy issues. The book features more than 100 maps, charts, and photographs.. Covered are such key topics as passenger and freight dynamics in the American metropolis; the urban transportation planning process, including the use of GIS; and questions related to public transit, land use, energy, equity, environmental impacts, and more
Informative, but boring NP Assigned as a textbook. The book is pretty informative, and a good text for those with a limited background in transportation planning. However, it is mostly boring, and can be a very dense read at times. It also appears that some of the chapters have never been updated despite being the third edition, many use old data to come to questionable conclusions while making examples. Other chapters appear to be fully up to date and aware of the current conditions of things.. Great Shane Dalton Great book for Community Planners, lots of people helped write each chapter so its the least politicly motivated book I have read for awhile.
Mokhtarian, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Davis"Updating a classic text, the third edition of The Geography of Urban Transportation once again captures current trends and issues in a highly dynamic field. The book's coverage of the literature is so complete that it can easily stand alone as the core text for any course focused on contemporary urban transportation policy issues."--Robert Cervero, Department of City and Regional Planning, University of Californi
