Nationally known gender activist Riki Wilchins combines straightforward prose with concrete examples from LGBT and feminist politics, as well as her own life, to guide the reader through the ideas that have forever altered our understanding of bodies, sex and desire. The author of Read My Lips and GenderQueer. She was selected by Time magazine as one of “100 Civic Innovators for the 21st Century.”. A one-stop, no-nonsense introduction to the core of postmodern theory, particularly its impact on queer and gender studies. Lisa Lees said Another must-read from Riki. Riki has done it again with this new book, whichtries to unravel the Gordian knot of identity politics in thearena of GLBT activism. There's a heavy dose of postmoderntheory here, but it's made understandable by examples fromRiki's life and from the life of GenderPAC. If you're going totalk or do politics at all in the context of GLBT, queer orintersex issues, you truly need to read this book; it willhelp you think clearly.. queer & gender theory 101 This book is a must have for anyone who wants to know more about LGBTQI or gender theory. I first read this book in a Queer Theory course during my BA for Gender Studies and absolutely loved it. Now that I am working toward my MA in Gender Studies, I find myself referncing this book frequently for it's insightful information. This is a scholasticly sound book and should be included in the library of all Women's and Gender studies readers/professors/students.. A Perfect Primer for Gender/Queer Theory! This book does exactly what it sets out to do: whereas my initial attempts at reading and understanding Foucault and Butler left me interested but confused, now, after reading this book -- in a mere four days -- I actually get postmodernism, a.k.a. the theory behind gender rights. I've retained more from this book in less than a week than from an entire semester of a college philosophy of race and gender class. In other words, thanks Riki!
