DESCRIPTION:

Methamphetamine: the quintessential American drug. According to the DEA statistics, approximately four percent of all Americans have used clandestinely manufactured methamphetamine. Told from the viewpoint of author Sterling Braswell, whose life has been touched by the drug, American Meth is a deeply personal drama that illuminates the epidemic we live with today.. Today methamphetamine is everywhere, and there seems to be no way of stemming its growth. It is the backbone of Ritalin and the "club drugs" Ecstasy, Eve and Cat. American housewives, heads of state, businessmen and poets alike have acquired a taste for the yellow, crystalline powder. In the 1960s and 1970s millions of mainstream Americans used and abused prescription amphetamines; today, anyone with a stovetop, a beaker, and a little know-how can make its derivative, methamphetamine, with chemicals purchased at the hardware store and pharmacy down the street.American Meth is the unprecedented story of a molecule in all of its incarnations, and the deep but little-known impact it has had on American life over the course of the last century. Everyone from Hitler to President Kennedy to Elvis to Jack Kerouac indulged in one of its many forms, and its presence has been an invisible hand shaping events, preparing the ground for the strangest drug epidemic the world has ever seen

"After thoughtful review." according to Kimberly Braswell. As the antagonist in this cathartic tome, I am glad to say that the embellishments and creative license that was utilized in the production of this book was entertaining for the purpose of producing a personal narrative by my late spouse. It was absolutely heartbreaking to realize the extent of the emotional damage that was inflicted by this terrible scourge called Meth. I am grateful to have a first hand account to refer to in order to keep me on task. I am 6 years sober and am able to use my life exp. "Excellent Read!" according to D. Desantis. A book you can read in one night that packs a powerful punch! It describes, in essence, a meth addict and meth addiction. What I took away from this book is how, in the beginning, they're just like you and me. Certain passages described someone I once knew. How you just don't see meth addiction in most people until its too late. Recommend it highly!
